The event was healthily attended by a multitude of guests from different parts of the UK construction industry.

The CBH sponsored award was won by UK Power Networks [Principals’ Group]. Entrants for this Supply Chain Excellence Award were required to demonstrate: “outstanding performance by a supply chain, where all supply chain members have worked together towards common goals and can demonstrate improved performance”.  Criteria included identifying common health and safety goals, culture and performance, as well as supply chain risk management, among others.

SECBE Constructing Excellence Awards 2015 – Health & Safety Award scooped by Lovell Partnership

In continuing our support of best practice for the construction industry, CBH sponsored the Health & Safety category in the Constructing Excellence Awards 2015.

CBH congratulates Lovell Partnership on winning the award for their Dust Mitigation Project.

A unique brief was presented to improve on the design of the traditional broom. Lovell Partnership’s small tool and equipment suppliers were asked to collaborate with local schools’ during the project.   A prototype design was developed by students that aimed to reduce dust generation by introducing a controlled water mist. It was assessed for durability – ensuring it could withstand continual use throughout the day, usability – creating a broom weighing less than 3kg and competitive pricing.

CHAT FAQs – How do we make the most of CHAT 2?

Main Content Image

Based on our members’ responses, we continue our series on frequently asked questions about CHAT2. In this issue, find out how to make the most of CHAT in your organisation.

CBH always recommends ensuring that the people you expect to use CHAT2 within your organisation have had the right user training!  It sounds obvious but while training is always offered when you first join the CBH scheme, we understand that company structures and people change. Those personnel that may have had the initial training may not be the people responsible for CHAT2 now. Now is the time to make sure that the people using the system, know the system.

Even if your staff received training at the start of your CBH membership, your company’s work-related health management needs may have changed, or organisation might have grown in size since and now needs to add divisions or sites. Your company might have re-branded and you need to update its logo on CHAT2 but you can’t remember how. Or you may want to change the CBH job roles to more ‘company friendly’ job roles. All of this is possible on CHAT2, with just a bit of extra training.

Why not nominate a CHAT2 Champion? This should be a person within your organisation who can be ‘front line’ when it comes to all things CHAT2 related. Your staff is a knowledge resource and they may be able to help train any new starters on CHAT2, talk about the system to employees and answer any common questions. Of course, we’ll always be on hand to help support you and your CHAT2 Champion.

Arranging training couldn’t be simpler just either give us a call on 0345 873 7726 or email info@cbhscheme.co.uk to set up a session. All you need is access to a PC or laptop, a telephone and about an hour to spare.

Legal News – work related health enforcements and prosecutions

In each issue of the newsletter we like to share highlights of legal news and enforcements in occupational health. Here are items that may be of interest to our readers:

From the HSE: Safety cultural maturity reflects an organisation’s degree of readiness to tackle safety risks. Until recently, no equivalent model for occupational health (OH) had been developed. The current research aimed to develop an OH management maturity index for the construction industry and use the index to survey OH management maturity in the industry.
